WHO IS DR JAFFREY?
The Dr Jaffrey Song, is a nod to my grandfather, who single-handedly created and used both an experimental vaccine and a convalescent plasma serum during the height of the 1918 pandemic, in Hamilton Ontario, when he was the City Pathologist, and was one of the earliest doctors globally to do this. The plasma serum was reported so be so effective, life-saving in fact, that hospitals in Hamilton and Toronto wanted as much as they could get. For two months he put notices in the Hamilton papers soliciting blood donations from those recovered, just as Canadian Blood Services is doing right now, as we speak.
If you have recovered from Covid-19, visit blood.ca, and please arrange to make a plasma donation. They need you to come forward! It could make a lifesaving difference to someone.
Thanks to my friends Tony Quarrington, Jeff Bird, Ian Bell, Bob Bratina, Ian Thomas, Sonny Del Rio and Michelle Josef for contributing their talent and "at home" recording efforts to this track! And especially to Tony Q for his wonderful skill at story telling and thanks to Ian Bell for his historical sensibility in the making of this video.
Dr. Jaffrey's distinction and and remarkable achievements were heralded, and his dramatic story was played out in the press in 1918. Now, as we face our own crisis, we can give our local hero a cheer! To learn more about his pandemic story visit drjaffrey.ca
